Question for those who have watched the whole thing

Everyone is acting like this is a horrible movie, and I can't really say since I only seem to catch parts of it when it's on tv, but from what I could see, I don't get why everyone thinks that, or at least, I feel like Johnny Galecki did a good job. I'm sure not used to seeing anything with him in it that's so dark and serious, and it was interesting for me. What I want to know is did they ever explain why Teddy did those things, or was he just a psychopath since childhood? From the parts I've seen, it's obvious he was very disturbed, but it seemed like there had to be some reason behind it.

And someone mentioned the mother crying over him in the end and said why would she cry over that psychopath, but he was her son. You can't just suddenly turn your feelings off for your child, no matter what you've found out or realized about them.

I missed the 1st 30 minutes, so when I tuned in he just got home from college, so not sure what I missed at the start, probably something about his twin brother dying, a theme they repeat throughout the movie.

And parents sometimes don't stop loving their child. I know a complete scumbag who came from a good family but grew up to live like white trash, drinking and smoking non stop, going from job to job, home from home, now done time for assault, and his brother, sister and father have severed all ties, but his mother is still there for him, every step of the way, no matter how much he abuses her.

So this movie I thought of her, standing by her scumbag child.

My only problem with the final scene is that she just stood there and didn't run after him, it was weird.

Plus the camera work was shoddy, you should always do a closeup for someone screaming out like she did otherwise it looks cheesy.

I know I'm late to the party but it's pretty horrible.
