Why had I never heard of this movie?

It was very excellent and I very much enjoyed it. I can't believe I have never heard of it before. I was just wondering if anyone knows if this movie got much press back in 1996? The story line and the way it was told was excellent, and it was based on work of Kurt Vonnegut.
I'm glad i just stumbled upon it and decided to give it a try. Really surprised it wasn't nominated for any awards back then.
