The role seemed to suit him quite well. Anyone else think so?

I think Nick Nolte is quite underated. In my opinion he excelled in this film. Depending on your outlook this film can have varying meanings and I think he handled it all pretty well. This film was a kinda emotional rollercoaster for me, particularly when Helga/Resi 'appeared' after all those years.

Nick Nolte is great in everything he is in.

I became a fan of Nolte after watching his performance in this film and (especially) in Affliction.

He was a little too old for the first part of the movie (i.e. it's easier to age a young actor with makeup than to make an older actor look younger, so they should either have picked a younger actor for the part or had Nolte as the old Howard Campbell and another, younger actor to play the younger Campbell), but his performance was so good that I could mostly overlook that.
