Deleted scene with David Straithairn

There was an important (and darkly funny) scene from the book which was filmed, but that never made the final cut.

The soldier who arrests and beats Campbell after the war (played by David Straithairn) comes to Campbell's apartment with the intent of beating him to death. No longer the lean, mean fighting machine from 20 years ago, the former soldier is now a pathetic drunk who has his arm broken by Campbell in self-defense. His life is as much of a ruin as Campbell's, and now his life's only remaining goal was taken from him too.

It's unfortunate that the scene didn't make it into the film, apparently because the director felt that it ruined the pacing between Campbell's return to his trashed apartment and his surrender to the Israelis.

That sounds like a complete distraction to the story to me
