Muddled but watchable

Does anyone know if this played in theaters, or did it go straight to cable or video first?

I found this on VHS for 99 cents in the clearance bin of a video store, and I'd say the price was right. This film has a fairly intriguing core, undone by some over-the-top conflicts and performances and needless and unresolved plot twists. Diane Ladd and Olympia Dukakis are always watchable, but thankfully they've made much better films than this. 6/10 stars from me.

I don't know where this movie premiered, but I was surprised how bad it was. Watch Diane Ladd's great TV movie "Hush Little Baby" if you want to watch a good thriller starring Ladd.

Thanks for the reminder on "Hush Little Baby," TVmovieViewer! I have indeed seen that. In fact, when I bought this, I thought it might be that film. "Hush Little Baby" is much better than this. Diane Ladd is an appealing presence in thrillers, taking the types of roles that Geraldine Page and Shelley Winters used to play.
