Still the best of them

This is still the best of the series... de palma knocked it out of the park!

The visual storytelling, the focus on spying, building tension and the cool dialogue... it was such a fun movie...

Also, far more sensual than any other in the series... Beart brought something that has been missing from the series, so hot and knew how to use it...

More like this please!

You're right. And hopefully, when Ethan Hunt's time is up, they turn him into a bad guy like they did Jim Phelps here. It would only be fair, after all.

Would love to see Cruise play a villain again... Underrated in those roles...

I disagree with Hunt turning into a bad guy after all 6 films, it seems out of character at this point. The Jim Phelps situation was a bit more complicated. I'd rather have Ethan Hunt learn from his former Boss's mistakes instead of repeating it. Ethan seems like a much better person than Jim was.

Definitely agree. Despite the freakout over the Phelps business this is by far the most faithful to the spirit of the original show. The complicated/twist filled story and the Langley break in are classic MI. Love how the handle the complex story with minimal exposition and without it being hard to follow too. Such a good screenplay. I also agree that it's the only one that really has sex appeal.

It was so unexpected when they just murdered the entire crew at the beginning. I think that was De Palma's way of channeling "North By Northwest," "Sabotage," "The Thirty-Nine Steps" and other spy films engineered by his idol Hitchcock.
Offing the whole team also reminded me of DePalma's other TV-to-film adaptation "The Untouchables." In that one too DePalma has no reservations about demonstrating how vulnerable the heroes are when he's at the controls.

They should give DePalma a chance to direct another "Mission Impossible." The aforementioned Hitchcock-vibe is a cool addition to the franchise.
