Ethan Hunt ALL the way... i never liked James Bond cz half of evey movie was about seducing women... and i really dont know who had the idea that putting slutty girls in an action movie makes it better... look at the 80s action movies and you'll understand.

1. Bond has class, beautiful locales, hot women (not all of them are sluts like a previous comment. Some of them are integral to the story and worthy adversaries for Bond).
2. Bond is also the character that started this spy craze in the first place. One could argue that without the success of the Bond films in the early sixties there would have been no Mission Impossible. Every film critic / historian will tell you that Mission Impossible was created as a reaction to the Bond craze.
3. No MI film comes close to a classic Bond film. Sure not all Bond films are created equal, but the best of the best is superior to the best of Mission Impossible.
4. Bond also has the humor element that Mission Impossible lacks.

What's your prejudice against the British? You do know we dont act like those 'silly nannies' on family guy, right? Or were you recently attacked by an ugly, yellow teethed bloke who claimed to be British? There IS sophistication in Britain FYI. Besides, most of the time Bond gets women through wit and charm rather than looks.
Anyway for me, both men do very well in their own universe. They're both intelligent and can put up a fight (Well Ethan can fight in the sequels anyway). I would probably still go with Bond however because unlike Hunt, Bond tries to keep his emotions bottled up to carry out his mission efficiently. Hunt seems to get too emotional at times which could very easily lead to his downfall.
There is nothing sexy at all about English men!
They are ugly and crude. Now American men are handsome and sophisticated like Tom. Same goes for the women. English women are vulgar and brash. Whereas we American chicks are cute and sassy.

Ethan Hawke should not be Bond. The MI series is about a team. Not one "superhero". Ethan is more like a gay Rambo. MI with gay Rambo takes it self to serious to be good.
When cars spin around and around and around in slow mo with music playing. Its just hokey.
Oh... And Ethan can fly in MI 1. Somehow he defies gravity in the train scene and flies the wrong way after an explosion. An explosion that would have killed him if the shockwave made him fly. Why!=!=! I want either a serious movie or just a spoof.
My MI spoof would be MI hunting jews and exposing their conspiracy. Cruise have a perfect hook nose to be a cover agent while attending meetings with the Elders of the protocols of Zion.
Bond is not the strength, action, fighting type of agent. at least not until Daniel Craig. I can't say witch i prefer, EH or JB (JB played Daniel Craig) but for sure i'll always pick Jason Bourne as best :P
share*beep* yeah, Jason Bourne is definitely the deadliest. He's very similar to Frank Castle, but slightly less focused and waaaay less homicidal.
But the Book Bourne and comic-book Frank Castle (ESPECIALLY their origin stories) are remarkably similar.

Bond is iconic, memorable, smooth, intellectual, and charms the ladies like no other spy in history. And he's overall the benchmark for all modern spy heroes, so who do you think? I say Ethan Hunt. Yes, you heard me. Bond, James Bond, possess all these qualities yet I find Ethan Hunt more interesting and exciting to watch, and this is from the first Mission Impossible alone.
I'll try to be a bit more fair though -- Bond is the greater Spy, Ethan Hunt (in all the MI movies) is the better action hero.

In my opinion...Mission impossible 1,3 and 4 are better than all Bond movies except Casino royale, Skyfall and Goldfinger. And i mostly blame that on the not very talented directors who made the Bond movies.
So...Ethan Hunt for me.
