The only really good movie of the bunch

of all the MI movies, this is the only one that really felt like a real movie. it wasn't just about explosions, stunts and bad CGI, it had a real story and real suspense. it didn't have the "feel" of a blockbuster, it was more of a movie movie with characters that you cared about, a well crafted "thriller", more then a flat out action movie. it was just well crafted action film that you just don't see today. the sequels were all about the special effects, and while I can appreciate the john woo heavily stylized action of MI2, the other 2 were just terrible embrassments and got further and further away from the true feel of the original MI tv show.

Realism, Remakes and Unnecessary Sequels are ruining movies!

Totally agree! Except I think the third is my favorite outt the others. Maybe its hoffman. And nice tag line too

I'm just fascinated by how small and constrained this movie feels, like a TV movie or even an episode of the original show. The characters visit Prague, Langley and London, and except for the first city, we barely get any travelogue shots. Also, most scenes are set indoors. It was a risky choice to make for a high budget studio film, but it paid off - it gives the film an unusual atmosphere and hints at the emphasis on character, suspense and stealthiness.

I don't mind the fact that the other movies in this series are bigger and place more emphasis on action (as a matter of fact, I love MI2). I just wish not all of them aimed for that approach. It's time to make another film in the vein of the original, which, while not having the exact same feel of the TV show, still managed to retain enough elements from it and push them in interesting directions.

I hope some director in the future (they're always changing) manages to convince Cruise to shake things up in this series.

MI1 is not a good movie, but its the only one that keep the MI concept.

The MI concept is a TEAM working together. When Cruise got his delusion de grade MI series became a one man show. A Rambo clone.

I want a true MI movie.

The fourth one, ghost protocol, is as much a team movie as the first one..

Get real. M:I-IV was the most true in spirit to the TV show.

Frankly i think they should have quit after this. Most of the sequels seemed to be made just to give Tom Curse something to do.

And produced about $2 billion in revenue for the studio!

On my rewatch this week I actually thought that the first two were the weakest (though M:I 2 is by far the worst) and the third one the best. Still need to catch up on Rouge Nation..

Hmmm this one is my favorite of course but part 3 was very good too. Part 4 was decent though

This is more of a spy-spy film than an action-spy film. Reminds me of Munich in a way.
