How do the film-makers know what to film?

I grew up watching documentaries with my mother, and I've always wondered how they do it. Filming tigers in the Serengeti, I can understand, but how to they film a bee in closeup high-definition? How do they guess it's flight path? how did they film the dragonfly from behind (although my guess is, here, that it was filmed trying to fly while being held and then superimposed)?

I hate how you can't tell people's signatures from the rest of thier posts

They wait. They film tons of footage and then select what is interesting or suitable for their film. Then they wait again, patiently. And film everything again.

That's why it takes years to shoot a 90-minute film which does not include explosions, great sets, special effects or any other time-consuming stuff.

Never be complete.
