One of his best

I agree, eborowa, that it's very good. Of course, I can't judge whether or not it's one of his best out of all, but I think it's right up there of the ones I've actually seen. I noticed he used some different fighting moves in this movie, and variety usually is a good thing.

And I like his acting style. There's something very, er, sensitive under all that strength and skill.

I would agree. This is one of my favorite JCVD movies after TimeCop. The action was top notch and he never looked better performing. The story was a little tired (JCVD has played twins or double roles in several movies already).

This one is good not just for a Van Damme vehicle, but for an action movie in general. It delivers on pretty much every level.

And while it can't compete with the likes of Hard Target, Timecop, Lionheart, etc, (at least for me) I still think it's one of his best.

I would say it is Van Damme's last decent headlining film released in theaters. Everything else had a cheap look after this (Double Team, Knock Off, The Return). They all looked like DTV films compared to Maximum Risk. It was also his last film to open #1 in the box office.

This is certainly not his best work, but far from his worst. The problem is that it's middle of the road material. It's not memorably good or bad, so most fans often forget about this entry.
