Matilda was Adopted:)

I think Matilda was adopted, cause in the film the Wormwoods raised a child at the hospital.

reply

She certainly wasn't in the original book, or in the musical.

Let Zygons Be Zygons.

reply

WELL!! THEY ARE WRONG!! SHE WAS ADOPTED!!!!

reply

How the hell can the book be wrong.
Let Zygons Be Zygons.

why would be adopt her if they don't even like her??

But it is obvious that their pregnancy was unplanned.

reply

AND..... why would he freak out about a 9.00 bar of soap? why would ma have to shower if they adopted Matilda?

srsly, people have to think before they post!!!!

Oh God. Fortune vomits on my eiderdown once more.

reply

Well, at least in the movie it was heavily implied that Matilda was adopted rather than born by Wormwoods.
Would rather believe Ms. Honey was her biological mother... I don't think that instant connection was simply student-teacher.

reply

How was it heavily implied that she was adopted? the start of the movie shows Mr. Wormwood looking at his new born daughter very unhappily that she was born, then he complained about the bill for his wife's stay in the hospital, she took a shower which indicates she stayed there for a few days, and why would the Wormwoods adopt a child they clearly don't want? The movie is very clear she was an unwanted child from the start.

Yeah, that part I haven't figure out yet. But the Wormwoods were clearly not treating Matilda the way they treat their son... Really would rather believe Ms. Jennifer Honey was Matilda's biological mother.

reply

There is really nothing to figure out. The movie and book are clear...the Wormwoods are her biological parents. This makes the adoption scene at the end more emotional and important to the story.

reply

Perhaps those who believe her to be adopted forgot a particular line from !r Wormwood when he first meets Me Trunchbull and you only see their silhouettes -

"I got one boy Mikey, and one mistake MAtilda." Around the time Trunchbull says "i hate children, glad i never was one."

They were definitely her biological parents. I believe they were just very mean people. Yes they treat their son better, but if you pay attention they are not all that nice to him either.

No way, I think that pregnancy was unplanned. Harry implied it then talking to Miss Trunchbull. ("I got a boy named Mikey and one mistake Matilda")

reply

A white child with parents who looked southern Italian... who would have guessed?

reply

There is no way she could've been adopted. Why would those parents adopt a child they didn't even care about?

The pregnancy was unplanned. Harry implied it when talking to Miss Trunchbull. "I got a boy Mickey and one mistake, Matilda."
