How did Matilda learn to read?
Interesting question is it not?
shareOk this take some suspension of disbelief like her telekinetic abilities. It's got to have something to do with her instincts and Mrs. Phelps possibly helping her later at the library?
shareShe knew how to read before visiting the library (she read every magazine in the house when she was 4) Then she found her own way to the library. Mrs Phelps was very helpful though, when she told her that she could get her own library card and bring home as many books as she wanted.
It is a fantasy based story about an girl with enormous intelligence and magical powers that overcomes countless obstacles to eventually become happy.
Telekinesis is believable, but we absolutely cannot accept that a young girl learned to read by herself.
