Again the ending...MAJOR SPOILER!!!

SPOILER BELOW!!!!!

If Hyde put the poison in the antidote, and Dr. Jekyll died, as we all saw, how did Mary set it up so that it was Hyde's body on the operating table at dawn? When he died and she lay down next to him, it was Dr. Jekyll. I assume this has something to do with her wanting to protect Dr. Jekyll's reputation, but if he "didn't care what the world thought of him", why was it Hyde who would be found? Thanks!

At the end of the book, only Hyde was found, devoid of Jekyll.

In terms of the story, Jekyll found freedom in Hyde. And since death is the ultimate form of freedom, it is most fitting that Hyde would be in his place.

At one point in the movie Hyde tells Mary that he was the stronger of the two of them. That he had found a way to come out even without the use of the potions (or whatever). So in the end when he became Hyde again, I believe because it was as he said he was the dominant one. Also, I thought it was fitting because Hyde being found would (possibly anyway) clear the Dr of any crimes and his good name would remain untarnished.

because dr jekyll was only the mask that covered mr hyde. he was hyde, because dr jekyll had fears that wouldn't let him do everything the desired. dr jekyll was ''merely the cave in which he sheltered'', as hyde said. Gess that the death sets one free, therefore, the real animal inside him took his last form. however, now that i'm writing this, i think that it would make much more sense if dr jekyll appeared at last: as hyde died because he also felt things for people, it should have been to conclude that the true person inside one is not a person with no fears, because such think doesn't exist.
