Did Martin Short Die in the film?

Although we saw get hit on the head with an Oscar award by the Martian, did
he actually die? It just looked like he was knocked out?


Btw what did the president mean when he said "We're Going to take Charge of this Thing!?

He said he wasn't going to go to war with the Martians afterwards.
