Gabriel Byrne gives the best performance in this film

He is quite good and intriguing as "Brass Balls" Ben London. Everyone else seems to be playing to type, but he actually has the freshest acting turn in the film. And it's a-typical to his usual work.

May peculiarity tame the norm.

to me they are all cool in the movie

I agree. Gabriel Byrne was an absolute hoot as "Brass Balls" Ben London; his crazy duet with Paul Anka on "My Way" was positively sidesplitting.

Well yeah, he's got balls of brass.

Gotta love all his.. puns, for lack of a better word. Mick, Nick, Vic. Ben, zen, etc. His lines are like a song or a poem, lol. And yes, his delivery is very good in this movie.

absolutely.

Saw this movie on its theatrical release in 1996 - was the only person in the theatre when i saw it.

its ripe for rediscovery now - especially Byrne's hilarious performance - very rare to see an actor playing the role dead straight - but still managing to be funny.
