When the family men were out hunting and the baby half-brother (Jens) was killed, did the Dad shoot Jens thinking it was the other son (Erik the pariah), or did Erik truly shoot his baby brother by accident while chasing the buck? For some reason, I got the feeling dad was secretly at fault?

Erik appeared to have killed Jens by accident. He thought Jens was the deer he wounded. Frankly though, I don't know why people fire off guns without being 100% sure of what they're firing at!
