This or "No Man's Land"?

I've just finished watching this movie & thought it was excellent but imho it doesn't come close to "No Man's Land". I'd like some other opinions about comparing both films & would welcome recommendations for films i should see, now you know my opinion about these. I have seen "Welcome To Sarajevo" which i also liked but with most of the dialogue in English, i'm not including it in the comparison. Thanx!😀

Wow, I really can't say I agree, at all. No Man's Land is pretty good film, I love the symbolism. And it is certainly refreshing. But I argue it is the one who doesn't come close to Pretty Village(VillageS/FlameS in more correct translation).

Why. The true grit that shows the horrible character of this civil war, the unconventional 5 timelines so masterfully put together, the script that makes no compromises and flatters no one (no side that is), not to mention scenery and actors. It is the Platoon or Apocalypse Now of the Bosnian war. Plus it has the 90's feel to it (being made in those years) that No Man's Land doesn't. What is more, No Man's Land imo is more of a metaphoric, almost theatre style movie, sometimes not very believable either. But what I find it's weakest part isn't the usual low budget-ness of it, or the fairly simple plot, but the sanitizing of historical events which ultimately produced something like dream or fairytale effect. It feels almost like director was too affraid to criticize certain sides too much.

I doubt No Man's Land even tops 2008 Turneja (The Tour), which I personally don't think lived up to expectations, but still... Tour took a bit of humoristic route to the whole Croats vs Serbs vs Muslims story, but several scenes (as the one when Serb paramilitary shows even less mercy than by then merciless Croatian platoon, or when young Serbian actor explodes on Serb ultranationalist in the bus, or when Muslim captain talks to captured Serbs about about how they used to look up to them before the war) were just so powerful and spot on. The movie is worth watching if only because of those few scenes.

Welcome to Sarajevo, truth be told, has nothing to do with the character or the face of that war. It presents the usual Hollywoodized history. That is like saying Top Gun is a quality Gulf War movie. I avoid words like propaganda, but when Pentagon is making movies, history, and all of us, are at loss.

I also forgot the painful Vukovar poste restante(aka Vukovar jedna prica),another tragic love story dealing with Croatian - Serb conflict through the 1991. siege and fall of the city of Vukovar, itself a symbol of mixed ethnicity and tragedy of that conflict.

I always recommend Premeditated murder (1995) for its excellence. Though it isn't all the way war movie it paints the tragedy and mindlessness of the war superbly, explaining the "all around bulls..." in one of the single greatest scenes in exYugoslavian cinematography.

I can wholeheartedly recommend Karaula / The Border Post then. It's good fun before it gets harsh (and then it gets really good!).

No man's land by a mile. This movie bored me to tears.
