First of all, learn to use punctuation to make your drivel at least understandable. Second, if you don't like it, don't watch it. It is very apparent what the subject matter of the movie is, and if it makes you uncomfortable, steer clear from it. I really enjoyed this movie. It shows a different side of a taboo subject and it is tastefully done.

reply

sex with corpses is not "tasteful" you are the sick one!

reply

If you had read my post properly I said the movie was "tastefully done." Nowhere in my post does it say that I condone such behavior. This movie illustrates disturbing behavior, but shows the person as a human being and what led her to become that way. The scenes where she does have sex with corpses aren't disgusting and graphic, but subtle. The movie isn't make to make people necrophiliacs or accept the behavior, but view a different perspective of it.

reply

I would agree that the movie was 'tastefully done' and is in no way expoitative or sensationalist about its subject matter, I watched it with an open mind but it isn't really my kind of film.

I didn't enjoy it really, though again, it is not a bad film.

If only she could just have been happy with that nice 'living' guy..

reply

I agree with the original poster. Though this movie was told in a very gentle non-judgmental manner, its subject matter is still quite vile. Do we really need to know aboout a necrophile's heart's desire? What next? The secret passions of paedophiles?

reply

Um, check out the brilliant 'Happiness' for more on your last line.

People need to keep an open mind about subject matters like this. Just because necrophilia isn't something we can condone doesn't mean it doesn't happen and it isn't interesting to explore the subject further. After all, we can't condone murder but that is a key subject in any number of movies. If we didn't face up to what makes us uncomfortable we'd live blinkered lives.

reply

Best thing about movies like this is it gets conversations like this going... and then people like Magicunicorn and Titania say very intelligent things that make alot of sense, so that people who miss the point can Nod politely and accept that it's not always wise to just dismiss a movie because it deals with a disturbing subject matter.

Off the topic of controversy however, I think this movie works so well purely on the Basis of Molly Parkers performance... theres a romance in her portrayal, that makes what she's doing ever more disturbing, yet never horrible, or graphic.

reply

Agreed. Well done and considerately made movie. Nothing exploitive or manipulative about it. It takes a very taboo subject and deals and dissects it very seriously. It could have gone very wrong in other hands. I was imagining how campy and over the top it might have been if done differently. Another movie I was reminded of is Crash, the Cronenberg version. It deals with people who have car crash fetishes. I saw it in an arthouse theater and two people behind me kept chuckling through the whole thing. Apparently they didn't see the seriousness nature of what the characters were going through. I don't have sex with corpses, nor do I bang chicks after crashing into them, but a movie about characters who do have these impulses, however wrong that may be, which is a good reason to investigate it, should be taken seriously, and if not, at least viewed soberly until you've had a chance to take it all in and analyze it.

People who can't see beneath the surface shouldn't be allowed to watch any movies outside of an "Ernest Goes to Wherever" movie. Not that you have to like the movie, but at least judge it by its merits, and not some personal barometer that regards any kind of taboo activity in disgust or condemnation.

Yes, Molly Parker does give a romantic performance. She's so isolated, yet has this unspeakable urge which she cannot comminucate to anyone. She's trapped, yet strangely ascends from the depths. Dare I say she has a spiritual awakening?

The world's a hell, what does it matter what happens in it?

reply

The movie and the idea is sick. How is "necrophilia" acceptable? Leave the dead to rest in peace.

reply

Read the responses again, no one says necrophilia is acceptable or to not let the dead rest in peace.

This is just a well-made, well-acted, artistic little story using a taboo subject to make people think and have discussions like these.

so, what? Make sure no films are EVER made about subjects that many people find unsettling? Jesus, turn on the history channel. What about Schindler's List or any other Nazi death camp movie? Any movie about a killer? Any movie about any sexual fetish?
You need to grow up, open your eyes, read a newspaper, and get out from under the rock you live under. The world can be an unsettling place, but you can find beauty in the strangest places.

Necrophilia is sick but homosexuality is acceptable? I guess it depends on the society you grow up in.

reply

Huh. So homosexuality is the same thing as *beep* a dead corpse? Wow.
