It was called Joe Robbie back then... but during the 1996 baseball season this movie was debuted following a game to promote it. I am pretty sure it was the first time it was shown to a wide audience.

1) It was premiered following a baseball game, not a football
2) The Marlins were actually pretty popular back then, and debuting it in front of 40,000 people probably seemed like a good publicity stunt. I remember it, so it obviously worked.
I just don't remember if they edited the rated R parts out or not. A baseball game isn't a place for a movie with 5000 curse words is it? lol
