The only scene I did not like in this magnificent movie,,,

...is when the two prisoners sing "Proschanie Slavianki" until they break into sobs and are unable to continue. An orchestra and professional choir takes it over, in my opinion, very early and very unnecessarily. It would have been not only more realistic but more moving as well if we could hear nothing but the two untrained vioces singing. (Few films dare to try that, fearing maybe unintentional laughs, but that can be put to very good use, as in "The Cold Summer of '53.)
