I love it too, but for the chemistry between Demi and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Demi's great at the maternal roles (another is Passion of Mind), and the mother-son relationship here is very warm but also very realistic and in no way sentimental or mushy.

I think I saw this at the movies
I was seeing many films in the 90s
By contrast 90s movies were by no means artistic works
But they are , the early 90-mid 90s were better than the crap we get now .
