The Ending...

...was so incredibly sad and abrupt. I literally screamed "WHAT??" at the TV when the credits started rolling. Heartwrenching.

The ending was pretty jarring and if you've read the novel it was also very dishonest as well because there was still much more of this tragic story to be told. I was very disappointed because I'd read as volume of the book that was released in conjunction with the movie so seeing the shots from the film whet my appetite for that adaptation of it. Well-made with great leads but knowing the movie's ending didn't tell the whole story highly disappointed me.

Per usual, the book is much better than the movie.

I agree. Having read the book a long time ago, I was quite surprised how the film ended - and that Jude did not die! I would not go into details, but the part that was left out in the film was very important in the understanding of the transformation of the three characters: Jude, Sue and Arabella.

Also, though Kate Winslet is a fine actress, I have some difficulty in imagining her to be Sue. In the book, Sue was slight and frail like a child, while Arabella was the one who was of the buxom type.
