What exactly were those balls for?

The balls being thrown at the store, what did they stand for?

Were they suppose to draw them and the one that has a "lucky number"'on it gets the Turboman?

Orr was it whoever can catch a ball in the air gets one?

I don't get it

The balls had random numbers on them, like a lottery. Each customer was supposed to take one ball in an orderly fashion and wait to see if their number was called. If it was called, they would get to buy a Turboman (since there was only a limited supply). But the customers swarmed the store employees so they gave up and threw the balls into the air.

Lottery tickets. The store probably had a dozen dolls to sell and a hundred people waiting to trample other shoppers to death to get hold of one.

So, the store hands out a numbered ball to every person who wants a chance to buy a doll. If the store had 10 dolls to sell, they would then call out 10 numbers and the "winning" ball holders comes forth to pay double retail for the doll.

Despite the fact that the plan should have kept the process orderly, the buyers still stampeded and the employee, fearing for his safety, threw the balls towards the crowd to get them away from him, thus setting up a stampede anyway.

Good plan, bad implementation.

Is very bad to steal Jobu's rum. Is very bad.
