Had Potential To Be Tremendous But Sunk Into Sappiness

why the funk would they kill off the mother ??

just horrible.

then the movie got bogged down at that point and turned into a sappy mess.

had the potential to be a great film.

What are you, expecting lenthy replies to that?

Just watched this movie, and I agree with the OP. There was some interesting camera work and the acting was satisfactory, but the story itself was overly - sentimental, even mawkish, and the plot was predicatable, cliched, and contrived. 6/10 in my books.

I couldn't disagree more.

And why not, for heaven's sake? Don't those things ever happen? That's a funny question, I have to say.

It would have been nice if you had marked your thread title as containing spoilers, BTW.

I disagree with the OP as well.
Quite the opposite.. I don't think it got overly sentimental or sappy at all.
It could have, and looked like it might head in that direction a couple of times, but never took it too far.
In fact, I thought the story took a couple of nasty, unexpected twists that made it all the more more interesting.

Oh, come on, the final scene couldn't have been more melodramatic
