Claire's sister in law

I know the sister in law was in shock, let alone, hurt and felt that her brother's memory had been dishonored, but she didn't have to be rude to Claire about her decision to get an abortion though.

I REALLY wish Claire would have told her sister in law that it was THE BROTHER who got her pregnant. Would it have been a little "disrespectful" in their eyes? Maybe, at first. But they might have ended up being understanding about it and at least it would have still been within the family. I could never marry into a family that was so conservative and closed-minded.

A lot of families were like that in those days. The way people care about appearances now is nothing compared to now. Double standard or not, it was considered okay for a man to have an affair, but not a woman. Also, having an abortion was illegal in the 50s, and wasn't exactly advertised. You did it before people knew you were pregnant, and secretly, so that no one would be the wiser.

How did Claire say it was Kevin's? Is it because she said she
was lonely and hurting and that she didn't mean for it to happen?
How did that say it was Kevin's? Did they know he was keeping her
company that night?
