Punk regrouped and spawned Grunge

If anyone has seen decline and fall of wester civilization you can see clearly that early punk (at least american punk) had its heart in the right place but lacked some, ahem, talent? Grunge was the answer to that, where you had some seriously good bands, Nirvana being one of them. THey make punk radio friendly and brought it to the mainstream, much to the detriment of the genre.

I don't know, some early punk bands were very talented and great songwriters; Television, The Damned (whose piss-take on TV, Idiot Box, clearly shows Briam James as an ace guitar player), The Slits, X, Bad Brains-the list goes on and on.

The thing about "grunge" is that it really did just turn out top be a fad in the long run. It chewed up bands and spit them out and any decent band from that era and scene (as with any) was able to transcend that stupid term and grow. Much like like so many of the original Punk bands did.

grunge is basically punk chords played in reverse, slowed down, and the distortion turned all the way up.

come on over and do the twist, over do it and have a fit!
