He actually did look like he was 15 or something. I was shocked to see he was born in 1978 & playing a 14 yr old in a movie.
Maybe the film was in development while he was 17 but still he looks alot younger that that.
Now Jennifer Love Hewit was around born 79 & actually looked 17 or 18.

your post is exactly why i went into the message board for this movie. i was shocked at his age in this movie. he looks much younger. but these days he looks his age. i guess he hit puberty late. poor guy.

I just found out that the Daniel from karate kid was 23 in reallife while filiming karate kid. And he was playing a 15 or 16 year old kid & definitely looked that young. Even in Karate kid 3, he was 29 yrs old & looked like a kid...a older kid but still a teenager
There are laws in filmmaking regarding children in which, I believe if they're under 18 they have to have a parent and a "teacher" on set and they can only be working for a certain number of hours each day. One of the reasons they probably cast him was because of his age (since he was the age he had more screentime than the other kids).
