Riley as a puppy

Anyone noticed that when Delilah was telling Chance about what happened to Riley, the puppy they showed was a black Lab, and Riley's not?

reply

Yeah I noticed that too, the puppy was so gorgeous I couldn't NOT look! But to be honest, what kid of about nine or ten (or any age really) would reject a PUPPY on Christmas morning and just open presents? That's most kids dream, to wake up and your parents have bought you this adorable puppy!

Love is only a feeling

reply

I know. Which is why, even though he's only there once, I hate that kid.

reply

I blubbered like a baby during that scene when I first saw it. Seriously, I was bawling.

reply

i think they are now, but do you know if the dogs are dead, and when they died if they are, i should think they are though

reply

The dog they had was a dark brown puppy, you could tell when it was under the tree.
Also dogs color can lighten as they age.

Riley is not a Flat-Coated Retriever. He is a mixed breed whose coat was colored for this movie. The same dog played Rumbo in Fluke.

reply

Seriously! That part made me cry when I was younger. Any other kid would have totally forgotten everything else in the room upon getting a PUPPY for Christmas. I wanted to strangle that kid, lol.

reply

yeah, i hate that kid's guts too. ugh, i'd slap him upside the head. and the PARENTS! what a$$holes! not even taking the time to look for a better home, just dumping him out in the city?!! ugh, i'd shoot all of them. those devils. animals are living THINGS. part of the family. dont certain people get it?!

reply

Yeah seriously! What kind of parents would just dump a baby animal out in the rain? Gee, that's a really good lesson to teach the kids.

That was really odd. Maybe his parents treated him the same way. Like they would put him out on a street if they didn't want him. It was sad. I like the movie. I lived in San Francisco when it was filmed. I saw them shoot the sceans near Union Square. It is so cool to see movies filmed in San Francisco.
have a great and wondrful day

I hated that kid and the parents too!! I think of my dog Dobie when I see this scene. He was a stray that my brother rescued Christmas 2000. He was walking and my brother was following him with the car. He was weak and couldn't run very far. It was cold out and Dobie was skinny and his bones were showing. Few days later we take him to the vet and we found out he had heart worm. It took 3 or 4 treatments to kill the worms. We also didn't know his age. the vet suspected he was between 2 and 4 so we made him 3. We never found out where he came from or anything about his past. He lived 9 years with us. He passed away on June 30th this year. He was such a good boy. We all miss him so much. Christmas will be an emotional one for us this year. Only thing that makes me feel better is hes no longer suffering or in any pain. I LUV DOGS SO MUCH! I wish they lived longer.

The kid had a phobia of dogs, but his parents need to be punished for leaving Riley out in the rain. If they didn't want him, find someone who does!

reply

Whether it was a phobia, dislike, or just disinterest...those horrible parents should've been locked up for abandoning a helpless puppy on the side of the road, box or no box!
