Ashcan a pet?

Ashcan must have been a pet once, because other wise, how could he have gotten his tail docked? You don't think his story is similar to Riley's?

reply

That could've been a mistake but the makers, but I don't see why he couldn't have the same fate.

Only Ashcan is more bitter, or something. Perhaps Pete is the one he's protecting from humans. I always wondered why those two hung out togethor.lolI've even come to think Ashcan is his father, or something. Or maybe Pete was also abandoned, or something.

i think that his tail and ears are docked only because it would take too much time to raise a puppy without ears/tail docked, and what could you do with him/her after the movie? he would have signs of a bad breeder and owner, no one would buy him, and they could only use him for movies involving stray boxers, and how many of those are there? i haven't seen any movies involving stray boxers since this one.

reply

I think ashcan and pete are pets who also are wannabe strays they both wear collars

reply

Lol, that's an interesting idea! Maybe they're supposed to be like stereotypical teenagers who hang around on the street? Yeah I'm random, but whatever. I <3 this movie - watching it now hehe =D

reply

not everyone docks the tails and/or crops the ears on boxers. people who are wanting them for some special reason may prefer it, but people who just get one as a companion usually leave everything intact. my cousin had one and he still had his tail

reply

Well, I don't see how a purebred Boxer could be the father of a purebred Bullmastiff, but maybe a sort of surrogate, very mean and bossy "father" who has to take care of the dim-witted Pete, LOL. I'm sure they used a Boxer with the typical cropped ears and docked tail because a) they look "tougher" that way and it suits his personality, and b) it was probably a lot easier to find that kind of Boxer for movie-making, especially 16 years ago. As for how it fits into the movie, well, both of them COULD be pets who like to escape and pretend they're rough-and-tough street dogs. xD As someone pointed out, they've got collars as well. Either that, or more likely, they were formerly pets...who could have run away, been abandoned, lost their owners somehow, etc.

reply

It would explain why he is bitter.

reply

I just figured they were junkyard dogs.

They’re from bad seed.
