Shield in Prep School

The opening of the film, where Lovitz's character is walking down the stairs. He passes a "Wellington Academy" shield showing a jar of mayonnaise & a loaf of bread. A first, I got a big laugh out of it. But then, as I thought better of it: is it there to signify that the school is only for privileged white boys (i.e. white bread)?
