3 directors credited?

Who directed this Hellraiser episode? Kevin Yagher or Alan Smithee or Joe Chappelle? How come 3 guys are credited for it?

You do realize that you can leave Alan Smithee off that list, right? You know, as it's the name used when the director is so ashamed of the movie he wants his name of? ;)

"off"

Kevin Yagher was the original director, but he left after the producers were unsatisfied with his cut. They brought in Joe Chappelle(director of Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers which was also heavily altered after being completed) to reshoot a few scenes and alter the overall narrative from linear to flashbacks. There is no Alan Smithee, it's just a pseudonym when the director is ashamed of their movie and doesn't want credit. My guess is Yagher refused credit and Joe Chappelle hadn't shot enough footage to qualify as the film's sole director.

HellboundHero pretty much nailed it for the most part. Yagher made a cut that apparently was much more graphic and also doesn't reveal Pinhead til about the 40 minute mark....studio interference screwed with the cut and Yagher walked, without completing filming. Chapelle finished it and it was re-edited by the studio powers that be and the result is a movie that damned future Hellraiser movies to direct-to-video.
