The Same Person?

After watching this for the first time I'm wondering whether or not Phillip LeMarchand, John Merchant and Paul Merchant are all the same person just reincarnated being that they all share an uncanny resemblance (portrayed by the same actor of course but story wise I mean). Not to mention when Paul Merchant releases Pinhead he calls out "Merchant?" as if he knew the same man would be the one to summon them albeit a few moments later he says "Is that any way to treat an old member of the family?" Then there is also the fact that their blood remembers like when Angelique touches John and he immediately knows her name and speaks with somewhat of an accent like LeMarchand. I personally think that although they are different people in body they are the same person in soul. LeMarchand died, came back as John Merchant who was then reborn as Paul Merchant. All of the other Merchants in the bloodline did not factor into the war with Pinhead other than these three men so logically it would make sense that reincarnation has happened here.

Thoughts?

I thought that might be the case, but the movie never really makes it clear. Pinhead says to Paul "You look so very much like your ancestors, did you know that? I have a distinct sense of deja vu". He speaks as if Paul is a separate person from the other Merchants/LeMarchands, and that their physical resemblance is just a genetic quirk. The idea that part of the curse is Philip being resurrected every hundred/two hundred years or so as his own descendants is interesting, though.

I know, right? I wish they would have explored that possibility in the movie but I think it may be like a sub-plot type of thing that was never delved into. Philip never met Pinhead because Pinhead was after his time but John knew Angelique or at least his blood did so I would gather there is some type of reincarnation going on here at least for Philip, John and Paul.
