Saw this at the cinema when it was new. I like it a lot. Hey, sure it ain't perfect but I can forgive any film its sins if it's heart is in the right spot. And it has a strong element to it that involves you on an deep emotional level. That is always a good sign.

I don't care about the book. God, book v film, what a tired old argument that is.

Couple of fav scenes. The opener in the church. Amazing. Anyone who's dabbled with a drinking problem will get it. Alec in the boat with a beer when it just goes round and round. And he is utterly emotionally lost. Great moment. When he meets up with whatsherface and there is this sexual tension. She is making BIG overtures towards him. He's clearly kind of tempted. Scene cuts out. You never know what happens. But I reckon Alec just pecked her on the cheek and walked away.

And the black guy who assists Alec is a scene stealer.

Really good little film. I don't understand the animosity towards it.

Completely agree with you about the movie. Haven't read the book so can't comment on it, but loved the movie. Don't get why people hate it so much.

Me too, love the setting, the heat, the acting, even the story. Love Baldwin!
