Comedy?!?

I'm really not getting why this movie is linked into the comedy genre of films...I found it in the comedy section of a bleedin' Blockbuster. Sure, the movie had some really funny parts...Pulp Fiction had some really funny parts, and I'm pretty sure it's not found in any comedy section of any video store. Now, I'm pretty sure the overview of this film wasn't supposed to be classified as Dark Comedy...the ending was just too depressing for it to be satirical. So if anyone has any thoughts on this...as to why this film has been classified as a comedy...please, give me your ideas. I'd really like to hear what other people thought about this film, and find out exactly what categorizes it as a comedy. Because trust me....it's not exactly the "feel good" movie of the year.

Cheers.

In my experience, a lot of films are in the comedy section that shouldn't be. I saw these, for instance:
The Fisher King
The King of Comedy
Welcome to the DollHouse.
I just think that paople just put them wherever because of the title or other inaccurate reasons. The Fisher King probably bcause Robin Williams was in it. Dollhouse, I have no idea why.

It all depends on the audience. This movie was made for Western Canadians. If your from western Canada, then your likely to get more of the jokes. I watched it with two of my friends, one of them is from Vancouver, the other and me are both from Toronto. My friend from Vancouver thought it was pretty funny, while my other friend and I didn't think is was that funny.

just thought I'd let you know that Pulp Fiction is in the comedy section of the video store...

Well I work in a video store, and if your local video store has pulp fiction in the compedy section then they don't know what they are talking about. Sure pulp fiction has it's funny moments. basically due to QT's ability to write dialogue between characters. I mean Reservoir Dogs, True Romance, Jackie Brown all have hysterical moments in them, but none of them should be in the compedy section. As for Hardcore Logo. After watching it i kind of felt the same thing aout it not really being a comedy, especially after the ending. Although if you think about it there really is no other section to put it in. I mean it is definitly not sci fi, action, horror, mystery. I guess it would kind of work for drama but i think it's more of a comedy then drama.

I don't think it's primarily a comedy, either, but then there are some parts that were definitely only put in their for comedic value (for instance Joe and John arguing at the beginning if Bucky had only lost one or both legs).

What would you classify this movie as?

reply

I'd call this a tragedy. With funny moments, no doubt, but ultimately, a tragedy.

reply

Because life in general is comedy until the last moments when drama steps in to reassert it's predominance.

reply

Because it's funny. "They stole his body . . .". That's funny.

It's certainly an attempt at comedy, though I hardly cracked a smile. It's more of a satire or dark comedy. But yes, some people will laugh at this film, though not necessarily the ending.
