Simple question. What is a soft body?

The title, Hands on A Hard Body, about a contest to win an ordinary pick up truck made me wonder why the term "hard body" matters, unless some other kind of vehicle is a "soft body" or any other kind.

When I first saw this title I had to check out what it was about because it sounded like a gay porn movie, and I could not believe that such a thing would be listed at the place I read it.

Anything it has to say about life in America today really can't be good.

Alternative title might be They Shoot Rednecks, Don't They?, the other film classic about desperate people in a stunt marathon event.

...a sexual innuendo?

Subsequent research indicates that there is no analogous "soft body" truck. The "Hardbody" started as a marketing phrase for a specific pick-up truck, the Datsun (Nissan) D21 starting 1985, that had a double wall bed among other things to justify that name. In the film, the prize actually is a Nissan Hardbody truck (the logo is visible in the film trailer). It is not one of those things that went generic, like "Xeroxing" a page with some other brand of copier, or "googling" something with a non-Google search engine, or the title just going for the alliteration. Dodge "Ram Tough" will have to get its own contest.

No sex angle here it seems. Refreshing.
