psychic surgery
I'm aq bit confused as to wether or not Spalding Gray really belived the psychic sergery scam. He is so Brilliant and cultured so you'd think he might a caught on. But I guess he just wanted to describe the illusion. I dunno??

I hate to sound cynical, but I wonder if Spalding saw the psychic surgeon for material for his act rather than to delay the medical procedure. I think his monologues had a basis in reality, but they appeared to be heavily embellished to keep the audience interested.

'This whole story is true...except for the part about sticking to the wall'
That's one of my favorite Gray lines. I always wonder where the fact/fiction line is.
Andy Kaufman was facing terminal cancer. I can understand why someone would be grasping at straws when your only other option is death. SG was only facing routine eye surgery. It's a little extreme to avoid such a simple procedure. I know he said his Christian Scientist background effected him, but still. I guess it's like the rabbis who had him clean the backyard, maybe he just wanted an adventure.
You think I'm crazy? Perhaps we're all a little crazy. I know I am.share
