Matt Dillon miscast

Too dark and good looking for Brian Wilson. Not fat enough.

I thought he was good in it.

I agree!
Total hottie!

Agreed. If you look at the production stills and film clips of Brian from 1966-67 he's still fairly slender, just not as skinny as he was a few years earlier and certainly not as heavy as he would become.

And, as the later poster pointed out, the parallels in the film are not exact.

reply

He doesn't actually play Brian Wilson. It's more like he's a representation of some characteristics of Brian Wilson, as well as some others. None of the parallels in this movie can really be taken too seriously because they aren't direct parallels.

First of all he wasn't playing "Brian Wilson," even though there were similarities. This isn't a documentary, you know. I just saw the movie again after 6 or 7 years and appreciated Matt Dillon's performance even more than when I first saw it. I love how he evoked Brian without literally playing him.

It's impossible for me to stop thinking about Brian Wilson during this movie. And the fact that Matt Dillon is so unlike him is very distracting. There is no shortage of actors in Hollywood, why not get someone who looks like him, or is able to act like him at least?

I love the scene where Denise is singing, "God give me strength" and Jay is listening so intently- looking at her with such compassion..the look in his eyes...sigh..

I remember the first film I saw Dillon in, "Over the Edge". I think it came out around 1979. He was so handsome-had a unique look and then a year or so later he was good in "Little Darlings" I love him in "The Flamingo Kid". Highly recommend that film. Geez, I should probably go over to the Dillon board..(sorry...silently backing out of the room)
