Who was Doris?
I think that was the character name of the black woman who befriended Denise and the beginning of the film. Who was she supposed to represent? Initially I thought it was based on Aretha but now I'm not so sure.
Thoughts?
She isn't based on anyone specific as the film isn't a straight biopic of Carole King. Doris becomes a member of The Luminaries, and they are an amalgamation of The Shirelles, The Crystals and The Dixie Cups.
