Joe Dimiglia

What happened to Joe Dimiglia (Tony Sirico's character)in the movie?

And for that matter is his character even based on a real mobster or was it just some generic hitman they made because I don't recall a Joe Dimiglia in any of the books I've read on the subject

I agree - I've read multiple books about Gotti and never, ever heard of Joe DiMigs ... I've ALWAYS heard about the Carneglia brothers (John and Charles) as being real tight w/ the Gotti boys (as well as some others like Tony Roach Rampino and Willie Boy Johnson - who's actually mentioned in the end by the Bull as one of the murders he had info about) - not sure why they used so many real names (Gotti, Gravano, Gambino, Castellano, Dellacroce, Armone, DeCicco, LoCascio, DB, Ruggiero, etc.) but didn't use either of the Carneglias or most of the others from the "Bergin Hunt & Fish Club" gang - I always figured that the DiMiglia character was just created to fill out their inner circle in lieu of being able to use any of the others ...

DiMig was based off of John Carneglia. You can tell by the resemblance of their own last names: DiMiglia / Carneglia.

I forget the reason, but something happened that made them change the name. I think Carnegs didn't want his name mentioned, but I'm not sure.

As for the film character, he is sentenced to 50 years along with John's brother, Gene. Many of the central characters seem to appear and slowly fall out of the picture and are barely mentioned again....its all due to the fact of 19 years of crime and complicated drama seem to be too much for a short 2 hour flick.

Wasn't Carneglia the same age as gotti, not a senior figure

In Gotti's monlogue about "how in 5 or 10 years from now, they're gonna miss john gotti" he mentions Dimiglia (along with his brother gene) and says how he's doing "1000 years" because he didn't rat, so guessing that means he's in the jail with the rest of them.
