Any body notice how the pecking order was observed in every little detai

Just a subtle little thing about this movie that I noticed and liked. How the lines of authority were always observed.

Gotti is always bitching to Angelo to put out his cigarretes. But he doesn't have a thing to say when Mr. Niel was smoking.

Well, if there is 1 thing that I don't think I have ever seen disputed is that Gotti and Neil's relationship was a Father-Son thing and Gotti respected Neil to such a degree that he never would have tried to tell Neil what to do.

Good point. It wasn't just a rank thing. Neil was definitely a father figure to Gotti. Now that I think about what you said actually makes more sense. In the movie, Gotti always chafed at the rules at the hierarchy if he felt like the person above him in rank didn't deserve his respect.

Exactly. Gotti respected Neil (as you seen time and time again throughout the movie) and I think he respected Don Carlo as well. Basically, since Gotti grew up on the streets and was a street guy, he only respected those types of people. Someone like Paul would never get Gotti's respect because he's too much of a business person and can't relate to the streets.
