The Gambino Family

Is the Gambino Family still doing these things now or not?

reply

Short answer yes, long answer yes but. The Gambino crime family still does these "things" (which are pornography, gambling, prostitution, especially car theft, garbage, smuggling, wholesale meat, garments, contract killing, extortion, loan sharking, construction, trucking, cement, demolition, fish, hi-jacking, and unfortunately drugs) but not to the extent they were at the time period during this movie which was 1977 to 1992. They are not the most powerful crime family anymore in either sheer numbers, political influence, finances, or legal protection. Defections, imprisonments, murders, and natural causes have taken its toll on the once "Fortune 500" family of crime. They were opearting 21 crews, had about 300 men, and were making 500 million a year. Now less than 13 crews, around 150 men, and less than 120 million. What goes up must come down but the reverse can also be true. Down but definately not out not by a long shot.

I was wondering which of the 5 NYC families is currently the largest and if you could give me a website where you get this information now.

The Genovese crime family is currently the largest and most powerful in NYC with 250 members. This information is available at "Gangsters Incorporated" http://gangstersinc.tripod.com/US.html

Throughout the past century, the beginning of the 1930's featured the rise of the five cosa nostra families in new york city.At first during the 1930's and 40's,the genovese family was the most powerful in the country which was headed at that time by lucky luciano, who i consider along with carlo gambino as one of the greatest dons ever, and into the 1940's were it was headed by frank costello.but after the rise of carlo gambino as the boss of the gambino family in 1957 and into the 1960's,the gambino family became the most powerful of the five families and it continued until gambino's death in 1976.(Carlo gambino never entered jail throughout his whole life).after the death of gambino, paul castellano took over the family, but there was a powerful capo in the family who was also making his bones in the family, this capo was john gotti,so in december 1985,he ordered his crew to kill castellano, after a couple of hours big paul castellano was gunned down in midtown manhattan along with his underboss tommy bilotti.and after becoming boss,he made a lot of mistakes which ruined the family and also sent him to jail.and nowadays rumors say that john's brother peter gotti is running the family, but it can never go back to the glory days of the 1960's and 1970's.

Well clearly the Genovese's are doing something right. The fact is, the Gambinos...and the Bonnano's, Colombo's, and Lucchese...they all need a good boss. Junior Gotti is in jail and he wasn't that good to begin with...unfortunatly for the Genovese's...Quiet Dom is pretty sick and may die soon...all each family needs is a good boss. Someone who had the brains of Carlo and the balls of Gotti...and when that person comes around...and it's obvious there is somebody like that out there...whatever family he heads up will make a lot of money.

And if families continue to use the internet, they could see a boost in profit. There are still lots of ways to make money...all you need is the right people.

It's actually 200-250 members with 19 crews, I did a research report on them last year for my professor. They have three crews in florida now, two in Jersey and two in Baltimore, and the rest in NY. They make over 500 million, every family in NY does. There was a great documentary on National Geographic last year on the Gambinos. They are the seond largest family in NY, and third in the country in terms of power (Genovese and Outfit are 1st and 2nd). They are run these day by Nick Corrozo and his brother is consigliere.

Who runs the OUTFIT? Chicago? New Orleans? Philly? "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes."

The Outfit is run by John "No Nose" Difronzo, the boss New Orleans Family is unknown as far as i know (they have stayed in the dark since Carlos Marcello died in 1993), and the family of Philly is run by Joseph "Uncle Joe" Ligambi.
