This doesn't show Gotti rise up the ranks...

That was the main disappointment for me in this film.....

What do you mean? He starts off as a soldier in the movie. During the time he serves in jail you hear of him being promoted to captain as soon as he gets out. He was a captain when he planned the Paul Castellano assassination. Once Paul's gone, he's upped to boss.

Well, I meant it doesn't show it in enough detail IMO.

Sure it does.

After being promoted to Captain, he rose to the rank of don by killing that fat mobster.

He only rose through the ranks twice in the movie, there's no need to spend a lot of time on it.

Gotti was never a soldier. He was an associate who got promoted to "acting captain". After the Mcbratney murder, he was made and promoted to full fledged Capo.

It was less than 2 hours. It would have had to be 30 minutes longer to show his rise throuhg the ranks.

You should post spoilers in your heading. Now everyone without seeing this movie will know that John Gotti rose up in the rankings within the mafia
