yes this movie is hilarious. so random at times but so funny.

Half of the hilarity came from the badly translated subtitles.

One of my faves is "That hits the topic!".

How badly are they mis-translated? I get a kick out of thoses Canadian translators for Iron Chef, but the subtitles for this movies just made the movie that more funny and strange.

Sorry, no objections here

I just love this movie. I've seen it lots of times, and it gets funnier with each viewing.

Then I saw Shaolin Soccer, and I loved that even more. It is not as wacky, but I thought it to be a better movie.

Then I saw Kung Fu Hustle, and that is my all-time favorite movie now. Funny and touching.

Can't wait to see what is next from Stephen Chow...

Yaya.. I concur. Sometimes the people translated something very different from what they're trying to say.. so it will be even funnier for those who can understand the language and then read the subtitle..

I was pleasantly surprised how sophisticated the comedy and camerawork was in this. What really helped it was the crazy setting--food and cooking. And Chow was very dry, which is my kind of humor. This was the first of his films I saw, and I then tried to watch Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle but couldn't finish EITHER because they were not as new an experience.

agree, as much as i love Stephen Chow and his KFH and SaolinSoccer, Sik San (god of cookery) is my favorite Stephen Chow movie at all time

I saw it today. There was a moment in this film...Stephen is eating the Assorted Noodle from Turkey. He's picking it apart (verbally) and he gets to the pig colon. He goes on and on about the crap in it. The moment when Turkey gave him the roll of toilet paper was when this film had me, heart and soul. A screamingly funny gag.
