What does it mean?

During the scene where Affleck is at lunch with his folks and his dad is brow-beating him, he looks out the window and sees a fisherman taunting and slapping a fish he's caught. What the hell? Anyone have any idea what that is supposed to mean? Or is it just messed up for the fun of being messed up? Any thoughts?
