It was funny but I wouldn't say it's the funniest. I think the funniest was when he went into that restaurant and the guy was on the phone arguing with someone... basically I'm not going to ruin it for you. Watch it here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6yYQRG_M64

Yes, watch them and then ask yourself is such bullying behavior (the guy on the phone was a jerk verbally, but got a physical response which is just ridiculous) is Buddhist in nature, and if it conforms to the "I'm such a nice guy" portrayal of himself that Seagal likes to make in interviews.

reply

Mate do you realise that you're comparing a fictional character to an actor?

Not true at all, and for 2 reasons:

1 - Seagal has creative control over all the characters in his films. He is known for ad-libbing lines, changing fight scenes, etc--all to fit his liking (read: his ego). So if something happens on screen, it's only happening because he accepts it or, in a lot of cases, insists on it.

2 - You're more wrong that you think in this case because this is the very film in which Seagal plays up his whole Buddhist nature. He wears the fruity robes (not because he's actually a Buddhist, but because they conveniently hide his massive belly), he talks all about spirituality and how he can't fight because he's a Buddhist, and even has the whole "this is a mala" scene in the car with Keenan Ivory Wayans.

Sorry, but he's a bully!

reply

Great, so we'll have a peaceful boring movie. That'll be a smash hit at the box office!

You're right, because this was a smash blockbuster, with it's 1.6 million-dollar profit!

reply

Well, $1,600,000 profit is better than any sort of debt that would've been caused by a boring movie. I doubt many would disagree.

Warner Brothers certainly disagreed.

Ok well we'll agree to diagree on this one.

Meanwhile, I know this is going to sound ironic given what we're arguing about here, but I need you help in the Homeland message board.

Long story short, Lebanon are not happy that the US has depicted the country in a bad way as the S02E02 episode was shot in a ghetto in Israel making Lebanon look bad. As we're talking about truth here, I'd like your input in that topic - if you could tell the guys there in the same way we were arguing about this topic here, maybe they'd be able to see some perspective :-)

I'd be happy to help, but I don't watch Homeland. I don't know much about Lebanon, other than that Beirut was supposedly the most beautiful of all the Arab capitals. I think they used to call it "the Paris of the Middle East," but decades of civil war, and other wars, have rendered its beauty a thing of the past.

But before you read that from me, why'd you think I'd be able to help?

reply

Well we were arguing about truth and what have you here, so I thought considering that show plagued the image of Lebanon (filming that particular episode in Israel and passing it off as Lebanon) we might as well let everyone in that thread know that what that show was showing them was a lie. You don't have to if you don't want to, just thinking you'd be the perfect candidate for the job there. (I don't watch Homeland either, but did watch that episode just to see what the fuss was about).

Agreed. It was a big flop and this was about the last time he worked on a film with such a large budget. Apparently originally it was even bigger, but WB cut the budget during production. They probably still reckon they partially dodged a bullet there.🐭
