Why is it called 'The Glimmer Man'?

Granted I have not actually seen this movie, and there is a good chance I won't. But I'm just curious as to the title; what does it mean/refer to?

Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks :)

It's made in reference to Seagal's character, Jack Cole. You see, before Cole was a detective he used to run black op missions for the C.I.A during Vietnam, assassinations, gathering intelligence through "questionable" means, stuff like that. That's until he went AWOL and disappeared into Cambodia or some other neighboring country, don't know which right now, seemed to have forgotten. Anyway, Mr Smith, (the guy who originally discovered Cole and who used to be his superior during Cole's C.I.A days), explains how the moniker originally came about when discussing Cole to Frank Deverel, who is the guy Cole is going after.

Here is the quote made by Smith:

"Suffice to say, to the people he hunted for us, he was known as the Glimmer Man. There'd be nothing but jungle, then a glimmer... Then you'd be dead."

Anyway this is a good film, probably Seagal's last good one until he plummeted head first into obesity, voice dubbers, stunt doubles and direct to video films with direct to video plots. You should check it out.

Thanks so much for your reply. You are the first one to respond to any of the questions I have posted lately without being totally mean in their answer.
Some folks decide that the threads I've started is their chance to be a meanie van weenie. Thanks again for your well stated answer. I appreciate it :)

Gorgon--what do you mean 'voice-dubbers'? Did his vocal cords plump up, too?

Check out one of his more recent direct-to-video crapfests called "Out of Reach." For at least 80% of the movie, Seagal's voice is dubbed in by another guy whose voice sounds absolutely nothing like Seagal's. My best guess is that Seagal didn't want to stick around for the voiceover sessions, and having seen the movie, I can't say I blame him.

*beep* that! Half my enjoyment of Seagal is his voice. Now that Palance is gone--he's the only one left w/that threatening whisper.

you're kidding. Eastwood? etc etc ?

even Mel Gibson can do that. refer to Payback.

Groovy.

reply

You're right--to a point. Palance & Seagal aren't acting. Kurt Russell CAN do it, too, but I'm talking the natural speaking voices.

Just about the last one to get a cinema release in my corner of the world, but it was pretty short from memory.šŸ

Which country are you from? I'm sure that Exit Wounds hit most cinemas world-wide.

the two bad guys were talking and the one said he knew jack cole from when he used to work as a mercenery. it would be dark in the jungle, no lights for miles and suddenly a light would flash, a "glimmer" and then you'd be dead. hence, glimmer man
