About DeLaughter (Baldwin)

Was that accurate? I mean, did that happen in real life? Did he really divorce and remarry to a nurse? Just curious. During the case?

That relationship with the nurse was certainly presented at a lightning pace in this movie...it was like one scene they had just met and she said she admired what he was doing and the next they were married.

yeah bobby did get the divorce. dixie was not supportive to that case that bobby was working for. he doesn't need her if she's going to offend him like that. if thats embarrassing her then she's embarrassing bobby while she's married to bobby because bobby was the one that put byron in jail. and what bobby was doing was the right thing not just for ms. evers sake and certainly not just for his sake, but for everyone in the whole world's sake. that is what u call a hero. someone that is doing the right thing. by saving lives of others.

It's not that fast. As she walks down the aisle, you hear a voiceover of a TV newsperson saying that after 18 months, Byron de la Beckwith had lost his fight not to be extradited. So there was actually a decent amount of time that they knew each other before getting married. They went through it fast in the movie because there wasn't a lot to show about the case -- lots of filing legal motions and waiting for things to be ruled on.

He began investigating the case in '89 and was divorced in '91. The case didn't go to trial until '94.

Remember Bobby worked on this case for over 5 years in real life. So in that 5 year timeframe, he got divorced and then remarried.

But the kids didn't get any older :-D

I agree this is a confusing transition in the film. Also, how is it that he appeared to have sole custody of those children? The previous wife just somehow disappeared from their lives not to to mention the remainder of the film. The daughter of a former, very prominent judge ? Yet he's able to make an unannounced visit to former mother-in-law with the children, a ruse to locate the murder weapon ?
