Maybe its just me, but the pacing killed this movie for me. It just couldn't get my interest. This coming from a serious Walken fan. Once Upon a Time in America was had pacing like a Cheetah compared to this movie.

this is what is called character development, where the story is character driven. not a shoot em up t & a gangster movie with gratuitos (sp?) sex and rape scenes.

moosefeather, yes, you are absolutely right. Some come to this film expecting it to be what it is not. Personally, I think it's one of the most profound films of its kind ever made. A masterpiece that should have earned all the awards possible. Chis Penn should have received an Oscar.

Well, it's more about character and mood than plot, really. I personally found the film wonderfully engrossing and consider it to be one of the best films of the 90s.
