is this like, one of the most underrated movies of all time?

it's so good and yet so obscure, it's cult film that lacks an actual cult

Agreed!

It is. One of my favorite movies ever.

CG GORE IS THE WORST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO THE HORROR GENRE!

One of my favs also.

I have always wanted to mod doom and have it be the frighteners! With the last level being the abandoned hospital! That would be so cool!

And yes, this film is HIGHLY underrated! This is one of those movies that should have come out around Halloween but instead it was thrown out in summer where it flew under the radar.

Also, the ghosts were done excellently, very 1980s Ghostbusters/Poltergeist feel with good use of cgi!

I'm a fan too, but maybe it was too scary for a mainstream audience and too mainstream for the horror crowd, hence why it underperformed.

reply

No. It has a higher rating then Bad Taste and Meet the Feebles so it's not even the most underrated Peter Jackson movie.

It also had the misfortune of being released at the time of the Olympic bombing in Atlanta.

One of my favorite movies ever.

Saw it for the first time back in 1997, rented it at a blockbuster on VHS, had read it was like Ghostbusters with Michael J. Fox... have been a fan for almost 20 years now.

Great movie.

In a way, I'm kind of glad that it's underrated and largely forgotten.

That way, Hollywood won't be compelled to do a remake or reboot like they have been doing in abundance lately.

In its, day, this movie was pretty original. Actually, I can't think of any other movie that had a premise quite like this one. There are a lot of movies about ghosts and paranormal investigators, but I can't think of any movie where the investigator is actually in a partnership with the ghosts.

So, it's successfully avoided the compulsive need of Hollywood to make a buck by rehashing an old story. And I hope that continues. I don't want this film to get the same treatment as Ghostbusters.
