Reese Witherspoon's Best Movie

Well, that's what I think, anyway...

"Election" comes a close second, but for me, this is her best movie...

I didn't buy Reese playing this type of character at all. She just didn't fit the part IMHO.

I might be present, but not in the room- Rehab

I really like it. I have watched it over and over. There are so many parts in it where she blows me away. I love the way she puts it down and the funny way she says things. Never seen Election but I will put in on my netflix list after hearing the positive comments on here.

A moo point. It's like a cow's point of view. It's nothing. It's "moo"

Indeed..especially when you compare her character Vanessa with her other character in the Fear.(same year)

That's because you're probably accustomed to her roles in Legally Blonde and Cruel Intentions. Narrow minded movie watchers generally see someone play a certain role and then can't see them playing anything else like people who say Jim Carey can't do anything other than comedy or that Tom Hanks was miscast in Road To Perdition.

Reese Witherspoon has easily had the best performance of her career in Freeway, she does an amazing job and is utterly convincing in every scene.

It's just flat out WRONG to say Reese didn't fit the part of Vanessa.

reply

exactly, well put Captain Howdy!

I totally bought Reese in this role. Are you kidding me? She played it so well! It's by far her best performance and one of my favorite female performances ever actually. It's an over the top film and there is so many outrageous things going on yet she plays it straight as if she really is that girl. I liked that. I think her performance is GENIUS in this. Give me this over Sweet Home Alabama and Legally Blonde any day.

She's a good actress Reese but because she wanted to up her status and become an A list actress she decided to go the America's Sweetheart route. It did help her status obviously but ofcourse it also causes people to not accept you as other parts. I mean look what happened to Meg Ryan. Reese is a good versatile actress but some people just think Legally Blonde and think it's not cool to mention her.

reply

I thought she did pretty well in this but Election is a far better film. It's better made with better performances from Witherspoon and Broderick.

I think this is an interesting film but I would never hold it up as a career film. I think Tip Toes is a better Bright film with more cohesion and consistency.

reply

How can you discuss Reese's range and not mention MAN IN THE MOON? It is her very first film and she steals the picture - she is fantastic as a southern tomboy who has a crush on her older sister'sboyfriend. It is a very gentle film - no explosions, no chases - just people being people and she is great in it. (I also love her work in Freeway and Election as well) She is talented but I couldnt stand the popular crap that is Legally Blonde and Sweet Home Alabama.

reply

She's a little firecracker in The Man in the Moon.

Freeway is her most re-watchable film if anything. Vanessa Lutz may well be her best performance though. I'd be happy if she had won her Oscar for this role.

I am an open minded person. I happen to really like Reese Witherspoon. This movie blew my mind. In its own way it reflected the same genius as the movie Hard Candy (another take on little red riding hood). Even though this movie is similar to Hard Candy - they are still two completley different movies revolving around the same idea of reimagining Red riding Hood. Mr. Sutherland is a name I know right away - however, he is not an actor that I vigorously seek his work. I must admit, he plays an excellent bad guy in every movie I have seen him in. I think Sutherland and Kevin Bacon are a lot alike. It's amazing the similarities in good actors and good movies.

I would like to see Freeway 2, Hard Candy, Kalifornia and Kids because I have heard that they are similar to Freeway. I agree that this is Reese Witherspoon's best film. Are there any other films that are similar to Freeway?.

Unfortunately it is unlikely that the person you replied to will respond back to you, as the thread is merely an IMDB forum archive. Members who have a number in parentheses after their names can see your comment, assuming they are still active on this site.

I think some similar movies that you may enjoy if you haven't seen them already are:

U-Turn (1997)
Go (1999)
Rules of Attraction (2002)

I so disagree. No other actress could have done it better so your opinion is ridiculous.

That's how I felt when she started playing Barbie doll type roles in the 2000s. She made a lot more sense playing these intense roles in weird, dark, artsy, f-cked up movies.

I agree, she's great in Election, but this is her best.

I only hope she tries to do more serious work. Enough with the romantic comedies and light hearted fare.

reply

I whole heartedly agree. Election was good, but this was perfect.

reply

walk the line and election are better

reply

I agree! I totally loved the movie and her in it. She was so funny and shocking at the same time. I wonder if now she would do a movie with such good/bad taste.

reply

I heartly agree.
It's interesting that in every interview she gives when discussing her work, she NEVER mentions this as one of her early films. "Freeway" is my personal favorite. It's a dark, teen dramedy classic.

Walk The Line, Election, American Psycho, Pleasantville, Cruel Intentions and Freeway are her best.

I think this is her best movie, or possibly Dani in The Man in the Moon. They're both pretty sad and intense compared to the other films I've seen her in, which would only be the Legally Blonde movies and Walk the Line.

I haven't seen this or Election yet, but out of the rest my favorites are by far Walk the Line and Pleasantville.

Every thing Reese does is excellent, but this one takes the cake. This role is the most original and by far the furthest she has stretched as an actress.

reply

I agree it's her best movie, with Election coming in at a close second.

reply

I think Freeway's her best as well. Followed by Walk the Line at # 2, and then Election rounding out the top three. She's a wonderfully talented actress.
